1ST PLACE 



 

first of all this entry unknowingly to the artist could have been in huge trouble why?
this is based on the novel by alexandre dumas. (you may know him as the author who wrote the three musketeers) 
Who next to tolkien is my favourite author , and no i know what your thinking that i will be biased to any work that is from his books. but thats not the case
i have read his work so much and any little thing the artist may have done wrong i think its safe to say i would pick up on
but spoilers 
there is nothing wrong this is perfect.
and the best thing is there is so many hidden details in here that lovers of the book will recognise.Which just shows how much work the artist has put into this entry 
the layout is also fantastic it gives a look of a poster , which is great as its a lovely little hint to the fact that this book is probably far more famous for its theatre portrayals . it such a dramatic look that really draws you in.
The choice of the foxfans is perfect each one is chosen for very clever reasons and i will not go into all of them but to give an example 
amiable is chosen as Mondego. what i love about this choice is that amiable is a foxfan of love and passion and despite dondego being a villain in this story. That is what he is he does everything out of love, a love that takes complete control of him. It would have been very easy here to have chosen a more evil or sinister looking foxfan but instead the artist has chosen one that represents the character as he is portrayed in the book, Rather then what would look best in terms of the artwork. This shows really great knowledge of the foxfans that people have created and i loved reading the artist's interpretations of them.
the little hidden details as i mentioned above are great.
the chateau d'if in the background , the water surrounding but not touching mercedes, the little heart symbol shattering with the lightning strike.
the best part for me is the puppet imagery. 
kage the foxfan symbol of ying and yang is perfect here one side showing the victim and another the person finding his revenge. The lightning strike splitting the two sides is really visually interesting and leading to the broken heart symbol i love that .

to me this shows how much love the artist has for the foxfans as this is truly showing how knowelegable they are about the foxfans themselves and as characters 

this was a image that stayed in my head for a long time and was great to find out that people were commenting to me saying that they are going to go read this book or look up theatre tickets . 
this entry really lit a spark amongst the people and it was great to see 

in short if looking at this does not make you want to go read i dont think a lot will.

i love this piece i really makes me want to go and read the series again.
i also love that the scenes chosen are perhaps not the most memorable in the book , perhaps exception of the 1st, but they are in some ways the most poigiant of the emotion in the book. The sadness and feeling of loss from the mirror, the start of the first friendship harry may have ever had in the 2nd. The 3rd making it known that despite being a school its not safe and the teachers may not be kind. and of course in the 4th the feeling of wonder and the start of a new life. 
again the layout is amazing the tree weaving through the memories and the little details hidden amongst it e.g. the plants and letters.

Foxfan Contest entry - A Masque Of The SeasonsThe smell of freshly popped corn wafted around the spacious kitchen as well as the ringing of laughter coming from the children at the counter. The curtains were drawn over the window above the sink and the only light in the room was coming from the candles on the table and the low light hanging from the ceiling.
Sitting on cushions on the floor around the low kitchen table were four Foxfans. They talked quietly to each other while the children prepared food for their furry guests. Unbeknown to the children, the popcorn maker started emitting a light smoke that created a mist around the ceiling above the table.
The fairy king of seasons Libellus watched the other foxes through the mist. With a sharp wave of his feathered quill he produced a low sound only heard by the foxes as a way of addressing the four who neither see, nor hear him, nor suspect his presence.
Libellus turned towards one of the Foxfans. She had styled brown hair, tied into a bun with chopsticks, with pale cream and br

the other entries from this writer were amazing but this really spoke to me.
it had such a beautiful feeling to it and the choice of the foxfans were perfect.
it has such a tranquil and magical emotion the whole way through and though we do not spend a long time with each foxfan, you immediately get there feelings and personalities.
this entry stayed in my head for weeks after reading it 



ROALD DAHL 




the queen of pixels does it again.
the detail in this is amazing 
what i love most about this is the colours you can feel the fire and the heat coming of this piece of work.
I love the foxfans chosen for the roles and i love there little outfits. 
this artwork truly draws you in and emerges you in the story 
it makes me want to go read this book again and again 
focal you are truly a queen of pixels and foxfans 




Shakespeare prize 




 
again the artist created many different entries but this was my favourite.
the words really follow the images used and i love that the images really captured the emotion of the words. From the happy go lucky look of the first to the grief and victory to the end we all know will happen.
it also brings a real look to the story. the story of bonnie and clyde has become almost a myth like aspect and its a reminder that they were real people, and this picture does that the emotion is so clear.
great picture 
also the work based on phantom of the opera is another fav of mine. The colours are so striking and are a perfect blend for the mystery and wonder in the book

this entry was so so close to getting first place and only just missed it.
first of if you have not gone and read the info, no wrong word there ,the book, this artist put in the comments section under this picture. GO GO AND RUN AND READ IT ALLLLLL. and yes i said all there and be prepared to disappear into the internet for a while because there is a lot of reading to do.
this is a entry from a artist that got a tiny idea into her head and not only ran with it but galloped that idea into hyperspace ,and i LOOOOVE it.
the idea is fabulous and there is so much i want to say about it i am going to have to divided it up here so i dont waffle , which i will do anyway but perhaps less so.
first of all the story
yes there is a story written in the artists comments 
the story to me truly shows how much the artist loves and is knowledgeable about foxfans.
every foxfan in the story and there are a lot, is perfect in their character and how they would interact with not only each other but the strange world they have found themselves in.
Little details like them turning into hand fans really made me smile, and libellus writing in the sand to communicate is so sweet.








Charles dickens prize

here is a entry that really draws you into the worlds of the book.
its so clear how much work was put into this and this was a really close winner of 1st place.
i adore the book and how its designed i love the story's chosen . 
The game is adorable and i love the idea of the patterns on the swans.
my favourite has to be the last story as it had me thinking for ages where is the link to the foxfans until right at the end its there and its such a bittersweet story

the colours in this are what first caught my eye. You really feel that you are standing under the northern lights and you feel that cold eerie atmosphere. I love the ink coming of the tail and also the words etched into the lights.
It really draws you into the image and makes you want to read more about the stories from the tiny quotes that are given. 
also your other entry was amazing and the words on the fan is beautiful and your little link between the quite from the book What is truly essential is invisible to the eye" and thinking 'that's probably why most foxfans have their eyes closed' is so beautiful 



Neil Gaiman prize




 

just go and look at this prize and you will see obviously how much effort and time and love was put into this entry. the style the books the thought behind every little foxfan choice. The animation is so smooth and the little parts like turning the pages and the little arrows.
its so so cute 





Rowling prize

first of all i have no idea why the amber card here is smaller then the others...it should not be ...but i can't fix it so apologies all 
anyway this is a really interesting idea creating card based on how the characters first appeared and what they end up like.
I love the idea of flipping a card and seeing the two sides and though the artist was unable to finish the backs of the cards the idea i think is well worth a prize.
the back designs are in the artists gallery and i think they are well worth a look if not for the artwork but to read the artists descriptions of each one which really show how much work they have put into the entry

omg what a beautiful entry.
the lighting in this and the muted colours make it so sublime and peaceful looking 
i just love it 
the animated entry is also brilliant again really nice , and love that little smile at the end

it was such a close choice between your entry the winnie the pooh one is possible the most adorable out of all the entries.

wow this picture takes you on a journey through so many books, and yet it works. all the pictures are in different styles different layouts from comics to abstract and yet you really feel like you are flipping through a book.
the ending is perfect with the red string imagery coming through and the words are so perfect and are so gorgeous. this makes me want read and imagine and i love it
It is truly the words on the last page that not only tie this entry together but really hit you hard.
they are full with emotion and meaning and they truly are so well written
also your entry which how the rhyme  baa baa black sheep came into being is great and i love that you found out the meaning behind that little rhyme 





Chaucer prize




this is just such a sweet idea. rather then go completely into putting a foxfan in different characters this is bringing a unique magical aspect of a book and seeing what the foxfans would do with it .
its adorable and so cute and i love the slight chaotic look which i can imagine would happen in this situation

the lighting the shadows this is a sublime picture to a t.
its from an amazing poem that is generally known but not read so go read it now its amazing. and this picture really catches it perfectly. I love also that it is a sad picture not all books are written to be happy but instead to show difficulty and hardship.

this is a gorgeous chaotic image
the costumes the foxfans are wearing are adorable and i love how they are interacting with each other.
the lighting in the background is great and really helps add a mood to the image.
The idea of having each foxfan represent each poem and line is a really great idea 


beatrix potter prize

this was a entry that missed out first place by such a tiny margin. What can i say this piece is beautiful.
this one really caught my breathe when i saw it, as i think it did with many people. 
 I love the layout of the piece and i thinks its something that really caught my eye. The layout is perfect the idea of the book opening , using libellus as the book is enchanting, the colours blend from one to the other perfectly and all lead your eye to the top with that cheshire grin
love the tiny details that some may not have noticed including the lion and the unicorn carved into the book. This shows to me that this artist truly knows the book for the book not the movie. This is something i really wanted to see.

11   Foxfan Tails Contest entryThe snow sat thickly around the landscape as the cold winter sun was setting behind the rolling hills. On the highest peak, overlooking the land, sat two lone figures. One, a frosty white and blue with his hat and scarf sitting snugly over his head and around his neck. The other, a mix of dusty pinks, dark purples and creamy white with a bow tied around the base of her fantail.
The ground around them was a pearly white in contrast with the darkness that surrounded them. Wild winds whipped through the trees and undergrowth, bringing with them an icy chill. But still the pale one did not move, his gaze never wavering from the snow.
Creaking could be heard from the ancient trees around them. Their branches weighed down by the morning snow. It was as if they were warning the two foxes, of the horrible storm to come.
“Raz we cannot stay here, I'm afraid you'll catch a cold” Kana said, trying to catch the other foxfan’s attention. She watched her surroundings, mesmerised by the beauty of the flowers surrounding her, from yellow buttercups to sunflowers standing tall opening their petals to the sky. Butterflies flew from plant to plant, distracting her from the vine up ahead. She stumbled slightly and fell off the path and when she looked up; her eyes were met by a bush of wild roses. She stood back on her feet, not worrying about her ribbon falling in her eyes after becoming untied, and stepped closer to inspect the velvet petals of the flowers.
